i removed internet explorer 8 now it says i have exp 7?

my computer told me i was having trouble and said i needed to download the latest version windows 8 which i did and i have just removed it because i have windows xp and i kept getting the box for windows 8 asking me questions. So i got rid of windows 8 and now when i open the internet it says welcome to explorer 7. Dont know whats going on its saying i need to complete the settings for explorer 7 have i done the right thing?

IE is simply asking you you to carry out a few simple setup tasks (in both cases).

Be VERY careful deleting IE completely. In fact if you do decide to use Firefox, I would leave IE alone and just get rid of the shortcut[s]). MS uses bits of IE in some vital places in Windows. You could trash the whole OS.

There are many people who have given up using Internet Explorer - the next most popular is Mozilla's Firefox 23% usage and it's more secure and FREE.

When you've downloaded it and you're happy with it you might completely delete IE 7 or 8 or whatever you have (if you can delete it) and then reload it from scratch and keep it as a back-up browser.
