How do i check if the brush motor is broken?

I have a Bosch Extraxx17 vacuum cleaner, the brush rollers are not turning and i am assuming the brush motor is knackered! How do i test before ordering new part?

The Beater Motor is connected to the main body via a piece of flexible cable. This cable is prone to breaking.
It is easy to replace.
