why have i got white smoke coming out of the exhaust?

i have a 2.2 diesel vectra on 52 plate and i have white smoke coming out of the exhaust(not steam) it is like a ships smoke screen could there be something wrong with the injectors or turbo although i would have expected black smoke there is also a lack of power it happened so fast it was if a switch had been put to the on position also the car is an auto many thanks james

many thanks boater i removed pipe between turbo and intercooler and there was a fair amount of black oil in the pipe should it be there? might the problem be a failed head gasket? how would i know without stripping the head off? is there any way i could prove one way or the other which part has failed

sounds like the oil seals on the turbo have failed check engine oil ,if its the turbo the engine oil will be way down if your unlucky the engine will seize keep checking the oil
