Call an electrician immediately and don't use it. Electrical faults in plastic fittings cause the plastic to overheat which creates this fishy smell. The temperatures reached for this to happen are quite close to the fitting actually catching fire. As you don't know where the fitting is, you may be none the wiser till it's too late.
