How can I fix my Peugeot 206 multifunction display?

How do I get access to my 2001 Peugeot 206 1.4 GLX multifunction display to check for wiring faults. The display is blank, but if I press down on the left hand side the display works.

Where can I get the bulbs from? As mine is working but no light

Lee, November 2013
I'm having the same problem with mine. I replaced all of the bulbs but it still doesn't work.
I'm trying to understand the suggestions above. Do I have to take the display itself apart?

I have also had this problem for over a year. I took the thing apart and re soldered the 2 pin bulb connector on the circuit board as suggested by Ron and Jeremy. However, the display still did not work, I took it to a local car autoparts and audio centre and they tested it. Turned out all 4 bulbs had blown at the same time. So make sure you check your bulbs before tinkering with the electronics! 5 quids worth of bulbs sorted it. :)

Ron,

I have had the same problem, and although I have no soldering iron, I have been able to get further use from the unit by cleaning the contact points you describe. As I am the least technical person in Europe, if I can do it, anyone should have a go.

The cover lifts off by had with a good vertical tug then 2 20torx screws to remove the display.Sounds like the display has an internal fault. On very rare occasions i have come accross a loose connector.

I had the same problem and have managed to repair it myself. In my case the bulbs behind the screen that illuminate it weren't coming on, removal of the cover will allow sunlight in and you will see the display working, or a torch if light is poor. The two metal pins going inside the unit from the bulbs fit into a connector on the circuit board, this connector will probably have a dry joint (solder parted from circuit board). When you push on the display you are distorting the unit and making the solder touch again, it soon parts again though and the display goes blank again, I had 4 x 10p coins taped together and wedged in a corner for about a year until it got worse. Remove the unit, two torx screws and the connector is all, open it up gently with a knife to ease out the plastic cover away from the clips and a screwdriver to ease it open, gently sperate the top from the bottom, the connector in question will probably come away with it, mine did, pay attention to where it came from and with a fine soldering iron you can resolder it back into place, it has 4 solder points but one was inaccessible, but it worked fine with 3, it has been perfect since.

Yep, new unit my arse, they dont care as its not their money, even if they did it for you it would only be an hours labour.

Post a message back with your result

Good Luck

My girlfriends 206 has exactly the same problem, she took it to the garage and they told her she needed a new display and it would cost 250 quid. Understandably she told them where they could put it.

But the result is I know how to get at it. There is a plastic panel surrounding the display and containing the hazard lights switch. This has two clips at the front (in front of the hazard switch, on either side of the gap in the trim) and hinges from the back. You can then lift this out to access the display underneath.

The fault is a poor connection into the display, although we haven't got round to a permanent fix yet. If you wiggle the plug a bit it will work for a while.

New display my ar*e.
