I have an HP pavilion a465c desktop with a dvd writer/ cd writer combo. It works fine on program disks, but I cannot copy pictures or data to a new disk. I have tried formatting the disks, but still it does not work. I have tried verbatim CD-RW 80 disks that say 2x-4x. I have tried Memorex DVD+R 8x recordable disks, and Verbatim DVD+RW disks 1x-2.4x disks.

Hi Helen, when you say program disks, what do you mean?

Assuming your drive can read ok but cannot write, I qould firstly try different software. You can go to nero.com to get hold of a trial version to check it, or the windows burner is quite good too, but I dont know if that is the one that you are using.

You didnt mention CD-Rs. Try these if you havent. Not a straighforward solution to problems like these. Worst come to worst you can try the HP recovery, just to eliminate the software being an issue.
