throttle cable has snapped on my sons gilera stalker and want to know if have to change whole cable to engine ort can we change it where it connects to other cable so we dont have to get into engine. how do we take it apart

im pretty sure it goes from the battery to the regulator rectifier and also links to the starter motor mounting bolt.a thick green wire.
