Your PC should not utilise windows.old
I have done a simple Delete of whats inside this folder.
(Yes, there is alot to hilite and delete)
You may have to reboot several times and delete some files individually. Because windows see them as system files - but they are system files the system no longer uses.

------------------------------

I normally do a clean install procedure:
Save any data you want kept (pics, music etc) on spare harddrive/DVD-r disc
Create and save a backup of all drivers.
(There are programs around that can do this)
I even make a copy of my Vista disc - if that gets scratched then it'll cost.

Then install Vista from disc.: format hard drive (this does a clean wipe) when asked.

---------------------------------------

When complete download and run CCleaner - clears up junk leftovers
