I can see power supply red light is on at hoover but upon pressing the switch on button it's not switching on. Please help.

1st answer these questions.
1. Has it always "blown" instead of "sucked"?
2. have you replaced or rewired the plug?
3. Have you (or Bob) dimantled it?
I suspect you replaced the plug & wired it up wrong BLUE is neutral Brown is Live.
