Our very important family VHS tape has broke at the end of the tape. Is their anyway to fix it? Is there a special way to rethread the tape?

No the only thing you could do is to take it to an audio shop that can repair or transfer the video to a DVD. Check with them if they have leads that can copy from TV/video direct to the PC I've seen some on internet for up to the £40 mark. type in search engine transer video to pc
