Driver side central locking not working?

I am unable to open my MK4 Golf from the driver side. I am however able to do it from the passenger side and all doors open as usual. Does anyone know a solution?

i can,t answer the question as i have the same prob with my xsara, so anyone out there has an answer please let us know. had same prob with bmw 525
