it maybe the rear barke adjuster has de adjusted due to a spring broke on the adjuster. this is a cheap repair and could be done by a novice. steve

HI it sounds like you need your shoes either cleaning and readjusting. or it you lift the cover under the handbrake lever you will be able to access the handbrake adjuster its a 10mm nut. This might have been un adjusted when the shoes were fitted.
