Gearbox fault keeps appearing

my 1997 xk8 jaguar was running fine then gear box fault came on, barely made it home, could it be out of fluid. do have some spots in my drive way

my 2002 jax xtype keeps reading gear box fault then all power drains i will jump the battery and make it about 1 mile and it happens again what could cause this issue?

When the computer detects a fault it will display gearbox fault. Jags do not tend to log faults as they occur but seem to take a few instances to set code. The display can still show a fault after start up and needs to be cleared with tool. Get codes read and if petrol engine check engine codes. A bad coil will play havoc with transmission computer. You need to provide more detail to get better advice ie. Year, model, cc. petrol/diesel. etc.
