What is the problem with my (Sony Trinitron TV. Model: KV-32S22)?

I have a 1997 sony trinitron tv model No. KV-32S22. The problem is that, when the tv is plugged into the mains and switched on there is no power but as soon as I unplug the mains lead I can hear high voltage as if the set is about to start up. Does anyone knows what is holding down the high voltage when the set in on?

I would appreciate if someone could let me know if there is a site where I can download a free service manual for the same set.

Thanks,

Hi,

You might want to check here for schematics for this set.

I just check the search on the site and your set is listed in two
parts for download.

Sounds to me like the SMPS is tripping because of some abnormal load on one of the supply rails. The rustling noise might just be the EHT supply draining away as the SMPS momentarily come off load as the set is switched off. You might want to carfully listen to the supply and see if it is making a ticking noise. Look for transistors shorted c-e, etc.

Cheers,
Andy
