the 'full tank' light comes on when i turn it to any setting yet the tank is empty, so it wont do a cycle

there is a tank with a float switch inside at the back.these get blocked with fluff.you need to check this

More than likely your water tank or pipes have become clogged with lint & fluff, best thing is to remove the removable tank and give it along with all the filters a good thorough cleaning, some people say move machine in2 your garden and wash out the pipes with a garden hose, then give all the filter and vent areas a good cleaning inside & out, hope this helps
