can i change clutch without taking gearbox out?

ive got a mk111 cavalier 1.8 sli LREG can i replace the clutch without taking gearbox out because ive been told the gearbox has to come out and the subframe has to be removed aswell ?

used to have a mk11 cavalier and you could change the clutch without removing the gearbox,you withdrew the input shaft from the end of the gear box and clamped the pressure plate and friction plate together with special brackets then withdrew it from a large opening at the bottom of the bellhousing i don't think they carried it on past the mk 1 shame if they didn't you could change a clutch in about an hour and a half, a haynes manual will tell you otherwise
