I have a Craftsman 19.5hp 42 inch cut riding mower. For a while it started and ran perfectly. But after it got hot it would not start until it cooled off. Now the other day it tried to start but acted as if it was out of gasoline and only ran for a second. Now it will not even fire. What could be the problem? It has gasoline the fuel system is clean with new spark plugs.

What you’re describing would lead me to think it's a coil issue.
The kill wire from the coil may have grounded out. Check it for cracks or frayed areas. Or it could be the coil it's self, or even the ignition switch.
