Can I still drive with dodgy heater matrix?

I have a vauxhaul cavalier ls K reg. The heater blows out hot air, but its mixed with water so wont demist the windscreen and its loosing water! If I turn off the heating is it still driveable? and is it the matrix?
Thanks.

Thank you. I will join the pipes together and get it fixed before winter, or when I get £120 !

If you don't want water to leak into the footwell, you could remove the pipes, where they go through the bulkhead(Lift the bonnet & look behind the engine) & join them together until you can get round to fixing it!

sounds like a leak in matrix pipes, you will need to have this fixed when you have sometime spare, get replacement cheap from good scrappy, details of how to change matrix in haynes manual (halfords, motor factors etc) keep an eye on water level, but should be ok to use car until fixed as long as you dont mind being cold in winter, and having to keep windscreen de-misted by hand. also be careful with water spraying inside car, not good for your electrics.

hope it helps, September 2010
