Mk6 Fiesta speedo Sensor removal?

I've read various sites about removing the pin on the speedo sensor - but I spent 4 hours under my car and still can't shift the thing.

Is there a simple way of doing this that i might have missed out?

i've tried all types of grips/pliers and struggle with the room available.
