One player (Samsung M101) constantly, and I mean constantly pauses while trying to watch a movie requiring you to watch the movie with the remote in your hand, and the other (JVC XV-N55) when you put in a disc, it gives you the window dialog of "reading" followed by "No Disc"? Both players are only a year or so old.

Are these Factory Made DVDs or Recordables or Rewritables?
Any Shop Bought DVD shold play as long as it is the correct region. Ones written on computers can be difficult, try them in a DVD recorder as that is more tolerant of Rs and RWs
