i have a mk 3 vw golf with a 1.8 litre se engine, engine code ag, and i need to reseal a hose, but need to know i drain the water from the engine first. is there an easy way to do it without creating too much mess?

take cap of coolant res, jack car up, put onto axle stands, undo bottom hose on radiator, and collect coolant into suitable container, you can now do your repair, when finished, replace hose and take car of axle stands, and refill. if you are using new coolant, dispose of old coolant at local recyclying centre.
