Isuzu auto problem?

Hi , I have an Isuzu with the AW 30-40 LE transmission
forward gears are fine and all as it should be , reverse
is sometimes normal but often feels as if the brakes are being held on ( they aren't obviously ) when like this if you stop facing uphill the car will not roll back in neutral or reverse and will only move backwards under power in reverse or will freewheel if you switch off the engine , is there a transmission expert that can advise
please , regards , Tim. p.s, I'm a plant fitter so fairly
able mechanically but not with auto's!

Its not an oil level fault! You will probably find that it drives forward in Neutral. This will verify that you have a forward clutch fault. The clutch is not releasing as it should. Try not to make it go backwards to prevent further damage. For specialist in your area www.fedauto.co.uk

if your auto trans fluid is at correct level and no leaks from g/box, then you might need the help of an auto transmisson techie, auto boxs are difficult for the gifted diyer to repair, but expensive to fix, might be cheaper to get replacement cheaper from good scrappy.

hope it helps, November 2010
