How can I open what seems to be a broken door latch on a Hotpoint washer?

The latch seems to be broken on our Hotpoint Electronic 800 Plus 9515 frontload washer. How can we open it to remove the clothes, and to repair/replace the latch?

take off the top look down the side of inside see the white catch put your hand down to the bottom of it and lift up it should open the door
