why wont my transit pickup?

my transit pick up starts fine from cold,but once warm ,the engine turns over ,but dosnt start without a tow ,if i leave the van for an hour it starts fine,any ideas anyone,been told it could be EGR valve sticking,has anyone else had this problem?

egr valves are bad for failure on mk7 transits but have no idea what model/engine you have
