Can all DVD recorders record freeview channels?

I have a Panasonic integrated freeview television, so no set top box.

I bought a Daewoo DVD recorder which recorded analogue channels no problem but wouldn't record the freeview channels so I took it back. The shop wasn't pleased!

Do all DVD recorders record freeview from an integrated TV and, if so, what do I need to do to get them to work?

Thanks

I have a VCR 5 years old. It worked great with my analog TV. Now, I have a digital TV. How do I record digital TV programs onto my VCR?

Use a mobile phone camera to record the freeview channel, remove the memory card from the camera, save it on to a Laptop hard drive then simply copy it to a dvd disc and Voila! you can then play it on your DVD recorder...so simple.

Just buy a seperate freeview box and a dvd recorder they are pretty cheap now. Then you can be independent from the freeview on the tv and record what ever channel you wish from the box onto your dvd.

Not all DVD Recorders can record the Digital signal directly.

As Terry advised your best bet is to buy a DVD Recorder with an Integrated Digital Tuner. It makes recording Freeview very easy.

If you wish to buy a DVD Recorder with Integrated Digital Freeview Tuners (they also have Analogue), the following Panasonic models have just been released in the UK:

Panasonic DMR-EZ25EB-S (DVD Recorder).
Panasonic DMR-EZ45EB-S (DVD + VHS Tape Combi).
Panasonic DMR-EX75EB-S (DVD + 160Gb HDD Combi).
Panasonic DMR-EX85EB-S (DVD + 250Gb HDD Combi).
Panasonic DMR-EX95EB-S (DVD + VHS Tape + 250Gb HDD Combi).

Otherwise,...
It is possible to record a Digital Channel using your Panasonic TV's DVB Tuner instead, as all Panasonic DVB TV's output a recordable Digital signal via a rear Scart Socket, usually AV2. (Panasonic LCD & Plasma models may provide additional AV recording options switchable via Menu), while allowing you to watch any alternative Analogue TV channel or vise-versa.
Timer recordings can also be set using the TV's built-in timer to control 'Q-Link' (Next View Link) or 'External Link' enabled DVD's & VCR's.

The only requirement is the DVD Recorder or Video Tape Recorder has a Scart 'Input' socket. 99.9% will have this. Whether the Daewoo did, I don't know.

I'd recommend buying a Panasonic DVD DVB Recorder to go with a Panasonic TV, if it falls within your budget.

The reason that the DVD recorder that you took back couldn't record Freeview is because it doesn't have a Freeview tuner - most of them don't.

If you want to record Freeview, you need to get DVD Recorder with an integrated Freeview tuner (just as your TV has) but as I said before you may have a search on your hands because most of them are still analogue only.
