How do I adjust valves on Briggs ?

I've replaced a broken valve rod on an OHV B & S 14.5 HP, around 8 years old. I know the settings (about .004 & .006), are these inches or mm? and is the intake valve the top or lower one? Thanks

Visit B&S's website and it look up your engine IPL(illustrated parts list) then you should be able to see which is which.

From an illustration of the 4 stroke cycle in the manual it shows that the intake closer to the output end of the crankshaft, however best to check with the IPL.

Inches, checked my B&S "Service and Repair Instructions" Part No. 270962-3/92 and all valve clearances were in inches.
