I think the concrete block has shattered, judging by the noise! Are these things one can buy easily? And if so from where?

Its highly unlikely the concrete block has shattered and buying one would be almost impossible. Try checking the suspension is intact and nothing is caught between the drum and outer casing. Also check the bearings for wear n tear.
