Normally this happens due to dirty or damaged heads or a damaged or old cassette tape. Unplug the unit from the wall and remove the cover. The tape is probably jammed in between the heads. Gently try to remove the tape. Clean the heads with a cotton bud and some metho. Hope this helps.
