Our Ducato motorhome (2007) ,ford transit engine model broke down, orange padlock on,engine turned over but no go, AA relay home, found it was a 10amp fuse below bonnet on near side,8m socket to remove plastic cover,a few relays and fuses in there, replaced red 10amp fuse and all ok.

I had same problem with my 2002 Ducato. After hours of trying (and failing) to sort it out, I reluctantly took it to the Fiat dealer, who quoted me two hours labour plus parts to fix it. They said if I agreed there and then to pay the price, then they wouldn't charge any more. Six days of working on it solid later- the van would only start with their computer, not the key- it finally accepted the code and it has worked ever since! For some reason, it wouldn't accept the Fiat code (from Fiat UK- getting that is another story). So ~40 hours at £85/hour= £3400 plus parts (an ignition mounted aerial and some kind of code-chip) and VAT!! I am sooooo glad I agreed to pay for just the 2 hours in advance!!!!!

Chris, I've just found a possible answer on a website. Apparently somewhere on the Fiat Ducato based vehicles there is a 150/175 amp fuse (must be massive to look at but doesn't say where it is). Anyway apparently during jump starting this fuse can blow and this makes the veicle impossible to start. See if you can find this fuse and check it before you do anything else.
