Does the internal battery need replacing?

I have a Toshiba RD-85DT HD dvd recorder but the correct date and time of day never saves when I turn off so I have to manually enter it each time. If I leave on standby it saves ok. Does this mean the internal battery needs replacing?

Yes, the Toshiba has an internal battery to keep time when it's powered off. Mine has just started forgetting the time when it's unplugged.

The battery is on the circuit board where the power cable connects - although the battery is annoying soldered onto the circuit board, so not so easy to replace.
