hi all i have a p reg micra which needs the timing chain tentioning could someone tell me the best way to go about doing this job thanks terry

terry carrington, July 2009
so its not possible

mohammed, October 2008
some one told me you can adjust the tension without taking the engine mounts off

mohammed, October 2008
They are self adjusting, hydraulic tensioners.

hi there mine is also noisy and iv been quoted by a garage to have it done is between 400 and £500 quid so it must be a horrid job if your a mechanic take the laft hand eng mount off, remove sump drain oil, remove 10ml bolts and nuts on timing cover right near to eng mount there are two chains which time the engine one from crank to middle and one from middle to twin cams both have there own adjuster, on each adjuster there are two 10 ml bolts loosen and push the adjuster to make chain tight do this on both chains mate! then be sure to have the oil and filter changed every six months regardless of mileage as youl find yourself doin it again soon and you only wanna do it once, should take good part of a day really to change it out or a few hours if your just going to re tention them i would change them as if they snap the engine will stop running ans youl brake down
