How can i fix my nintendo ds?

Turn power on,all works ,just that the bottom screen displays half a picture,so cant really use it as such...its like faded and distorted.Do i take it to a repair shop or am i able to fix it myself.

my nintendo does stay turn on when i turned it on. i bought a new battery thinking this was the problem . it will not stay charge either.
