How to copy HDD?

The 80Gb HDD on my Toshiba Satellite Pro300 (Xp Pro) is running out of space, I have a formatted 250Gb SATA drive to fit to it, but how do I make an exact copy of my 80Gb onto the new drive without buying some software? I seem to recall there is a DOS command to do this but I can't recall it? I can connect the new drive to the laptop via a docking station

There isn't a DOS command to copy a disk image.

I can't help with free software. I use Symatec Ghost professionally. You may find Norton Ghost cheaper. (They are NOT the same product.)
