how can i fix my ford transit van t280 2000ltr?

my ford transit t280 2000ltr has just started cuttin out. the temperiture gage rises then the engine just cuts out. Ten minutes before i had to brake really hard to avoid a crash just wonderd if that had enything to do with it??

check coolant level and also the small fan belt on the end of the camshaft which drives the water pump and p.a.s.

Hard braking should not have any affect.
check coolant levels, chech cooling fan free etc etc.
