vauxhall vectra 2.0l tdi?

My 2001 2.0l dti struggles to accelarate 1st is ok 2nd not bad 3rd and 4th rubbish. Seems to be holding back and some times engine management light comes on.It does not registar a fault code, and some times a cloud of black smoke comes out.Any sugestions?

would have a look at your intake system,have the filters been changed and clean?no splits, leaks in intercooler/turbo/intake pipes/hoses?and also check that your egr valve is clean and free,it may be worthwhile getting an intake system cleaner
