How can I get the filter on my Service washing machine to fit correctly?

The filter unit on my washing machine ..Service M3102A will not lock or seal after fitting back into the machine... it seem to go in far enough, but will not 'latch' in... the rubber seal seems to be fitted into the groove correctly.
