engine problem?

i have a jaguar x-type 2004model.the engine dose not working properly.is not smooth bun shaking.when press the gas at about 2500 rpm it goes off.and smokes allot.
haw to find the real problem?

it will need a code read to show fault.its sounds like its over fueling as engine temp tells it its cold and when you rev it it clears it out

could be valves or rings take a plug out and see if theres any oil on them hope this helps
