How can I fix my peugeot 306?

My car wouldn't start, I was advised to change my alternator and my battery, still no change. What should I try next?

is the main earth wire on the gearbox clean and not broken.you do not say if starter works if it does it may be red petrol pump reset under bonnet,or it my be diesel?
