check autolights?

I have just bought a Clio 1.5 Dynamique and when I start car, it always States on the trip computer "CHECK AUTO LIGHTS" I can operate lights manually but automatic lights does not activate. I have pressed the stalk and it advises that auto lights are activated, any suggestions please?
