How to STOP Win Messenger update message?

Every time I boot my computer I get a message: Windows Messenger - A newer version is available. You must install the newer version in order to continue. Would you like to do this now?
I have win messenger disabled and DO NOT want any update. I am running WIN XP on a notebook, my personal pc - no networking. Thanks...

To disable the Messenger Service in Windows XP.

2. Click Performance and Maintenance . ( If you do not see the Performance and Maintenance icon, you may be using Classic View. You can skip to step 3 below, but you must double-click Administrative Tools .)
Click Administrative Tools .

3. Double-click Services in Administrative Tools.

5. Choose Disabled from the Startup type list in Messenger Properties.
