How do you fit a belt on to a Dyson DC07 vacuum cleaner?

I have tried to follow the maker`s instructions to fit a belt on to my Dyson DC07 vacuum but find it impossible.It appears you have to have very strong thumbs and they need to be double jointed - am I missing something or is there an easier way?
