how to manage N-VCT alarm?

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can help me. I have 1995 Micra 1.0 automatic. Yesterday it refused to accelerate and go anywhere at all and also the n-vct lamp turned on. Today the situation was the same, I then performed the self diagnostic test as outlined above, and afterwards the N-CVT light did not come on? After performing the test, no lamp was on and the car ran as usual. However, I don't know if the problem will appear again after a short period or if the diagnostic helped the car with a digital error or something? Referring to an earlier post, what means "the car is in ''limp mode''?
