I have the same problem (Clunk in the automatic transmission, then "check gearbox" & service") after 82,000 Ks, 2003. Stupidly I purchased a Renault when the closest service agent is 700 ks away (in Australia). Would I be able to drive the car the 700 k's or should I transport the vehicle?

Apart from that issue and an electric window failing, great little car, best I have ever had. Next question, should I look at a new car after the repair or will I be able to get another 20,000 k ? It is my work car and as you can see I don't go a long way in a year, it is the secondary vehicle in our house hold. AS a matter of interest, how far have other Renault Megane Dynamique owners / drivers gone without problems?

If you look on this forum and the number of posts regarding Renault electrical/window regulator problems then I am surprised anyone goes near them.The warnings are out there and as for your own motor if I were you get it traded or scrap it and save yourself a lot of hassle.
