Renault clio 2 clutch problem ?

Hi I have recently replaced the clutch in a 2001 1.2 Renault clio 2 the problem I am having is that the clutch seems to only disengage around half way so it is almost impossible to select gears when the engine is running you can rev match and change whilst in motion and select freely when the engine is off. The clutch cable is apparently on an auto adjuster and I cannot see a way to bypass this and tighten the cable any more, also I have tried to pack the end at the selector fork with spacers to see if there is a stretching problem but this didn't work either. Has any one else has this problem or have any more suggestions?

Thanks Scott.

did you check clutch fork in bell housing, sounds like the legs that push against release bearing are bent or fractured causing uneven bearing operation.
