Stannah 260 will not go up but will go down?

My Mum has a Stannah 260 stair lift and it just stopped working. She came to the bottom of the stairs and it wont work. If I manually wind it up, the lift will go down. I have checked with a multimeter that there is plenty of voltage going to the connector on the PCB when the up button is pressed. Battery voltage is fine and have checked all safety switches and none are pressed in. any advice would be very much appreciated - Thank you

Hi Richard....The main carriage batteries should hold at 23/24 volts on test run anything below this and they will need replacing,if as you said they are ok and the lift comes down but not up tells me that the fault could lie in the upside safety switch area,i know you said you checked the switches but one of the weaknesses with the 260 model is that wiring to the spade connectors on the d2d switches mainly in the top skate[back of carriage] do break as there is movement on these wires as the stair lift moves around the bends on the rail.Another place can be the swivel switch under seat needing adjusting, the older type chair had 2 swivel switches right and left[you can hold the swivel levers up and see if lift moves]Hope this will help any problems let us know.............paul.....portsmouth/uk
