sorted! I followed the wires back to the motherboard, noted which brown wire was next to the red one and swapped them round at the door lock end. It works.

Yes, the middle wire had burnt out and I forgot to take a photo. I cleaned up the connections, cut the wires back a bit and replaced the door interlock with a new one. The mother board appears to be ok.

wiring to the lock is by way of a plug in connector. have you cut this off before noting the order ?
