Laptop won't stay turned on on a notebook hp nc6000?

HP notebook NC6000 won't only breifly turns on and then off when plugged into adapter. Batt is completely dead. Why won't he power stay on with the ac adapter? (the ac adapter is good). Do I have a short in the laptop or is it another problem?

have you tried it without the battery? The power button may also be faulty.
