Candy tumble dryer empty water light not coming on when full?

I have a Candy GCC 590NB 9kg condenser tumble dryer, and have found that there appears to be water leaking from underneath the dryer. When I took out the water container it was full, but for some reason the indicator light had not come on and the dryer kept going. What might have caused this?
