How can I get my USB memory stick to work on my PC again? Works on others?

My memory stick was working fine on my PC for ages & all of a sudden it doesn't work. When I insert it, it says there was an error with a USB device & when I go into the properties, it says there are no drivers installed, however, I have never had to install drivers before & it works on all other computers fine. There is nothing wrong the USB ports themselves, as I have tested them with other devices & have also tried the memory stick in other USB drives, but still get the same error.

I fail to see how "neo" can deduce that your stick has been damaged by a voltage spike from the USB port! What a load of tosh.

The most likely cause is the loss or corruption of the driver software. Windows XP comes equipped with various drivers already, but they can sometimes be affected by software conflicts, damage by overzealous pc utilities like anti virus software, or from an unforseen conflict caused by a Microsoft update. In XP, always set a restore point before installing new software so you can revert to it if things go wrong subsequently.

Best advice is to switch off and reboot your computer. Many times that will solve the problem. If not, navigate to the device, select run, then when windows tells you there's no driver installed it gives you the option of searching online for the correct driver.

The manufacturers website may also have a download section for a suitable driver. In any case, they should be able to advise you via email.

Hey dude don't worry, it seem like your pen drive is being damaged from high voltage from usb port due to mistakely inserted usb wires in motherboard. i think after 10 years we can invent the the technology to repair brusted chips (due to high voltage high voltege). so keep ur pendrive safe so ur son or grand son can use it.
