I think you just need to locate a replacement part and swap it in for the broken one. In this case the twisty knob where you select the cycles. The trick is in getting all the dang wires onto the new part in the right order. i suggest you pull off the control panel (probably just a couple screws holding it on) and get the old knob removed from the panel but do not unplug any wires yet. Set the new part next to the old one making sure of the orientation of each then one wire at a time transfer the plug from the old timer to the coresponding position on the new one. Be sure to route the wires the same as they were so your new knob will go into the panel like the old one.
I hope that is somewhat helpful. I found your question while trying to fix my washer and wondered if you had any trouble with the agitator and its one way turning action. Mine is had it and spins freely in both directions.
Any thoughts or info posted here would be appreciated.
